    • I’m a mediocre singer
    • I’m mediocre looking
    • I get mediocre grades
    • I’m the mediocre version of an atheist (agnostic)
    • I have a medicre personality

Yo dawg, just because we’re agnostic doesn’t mean we’re mediocre. It means we’re not foolish enough to think we have all the answers.

Oh, and kudos on doing something for yourself.

So, my last.fm is completely screwed up. For the last 6 months my top played artists have been Ok Go, The Killers, and AFI.

Then once upon I time I drove to Portland with Jack, listened to a lot of Matt & Kim, the Cool Kids, and POS. Now look, completely outrageous numbers. That’s almost 6000 on Matt & Kim, and the stats on Ok Go are cumulative since I’ve had my Last.fm profile (a year ago?).

This gets to me. Regardless of how the outrageous play count originated, whether on my iPod or my Computer (neither’s play counts for Matt & Kim add up to 6000 plays). I still get pissy at Last.fm for sucking so hard.

I’ve been scrobbling EVERY single track I play on both my iPod & Computer to them for the last year - they should have me pretty well figured out at this point.

Where are the awesome stats? The pie graphs? Another big one, why can’t I see a line graph (histograph) of what artists I listen to most for a specific week, that was you can see bubbles when a certain artists is hot to me.

I just find myself ever so unsatisfied with Last.fm. It’s trivial, yes, but I listen to a tooon of music and I would really like a scrobble service to really give me stats in return for all the data I’m shipping over to them.

Twones doesn’t do any better a job, and it’s kind of ugly. So does anyone have a suggestion for a better service?

These are photos from my Flickr Photostream, I hope you love 'em. They're here to stay.

When I say “I’m ok,” that isn’t grounds to ask “what’s wrong.” Just because I’m not “great” like you doesn’t mean I’m in a bad mood or had a bad day.

    Gawd (fecitious).

On another note. I am VERY jealous of black guys. They get to wear light blue sweater vests and look amazing. If I wear a light blue sweater vest I just look like a pastel colored white boy.

Last night I managed to delete 1/2 the CSS on my blog. I had no backup :/ So I rewrote like 30 lines. It’s about back to normal, except for conversations everything should look good.

Somehow it doesn’t feel the same though…

Swine Flu PSA from 1976: Hurry, hurry, get your vaccine! Oh, wait… we don’t have one yet, right? :P

This all sounds so very familiar.

    (via jeffkrulik)

I’m not going to bring this Swine Flu crap up after this one post. Because for those of you like me, one more post on your dashboard even mentioning it will send you over the edge.

I don’t fall for this crap. I just heard someone today saying that the media was “playing it down” and that the flu is a “lot worse” than they make it out to be. Um….are you serious. Gah, I want to punch them in the throat.

This is all so predictable. The media conveniently “runs out” of things to broadcast, so they show government fear smears. Montesquieu, would probably point out that the best way to subdue the masses under a despot are to plauge them with fear. You know, they fear this, they give rights up to the government, which never gives them back. It’s just so inbread that we’re to be dependant on our government. From cradle to grave as my government teacher would say.

I think this Swine Flu has much less to do with the Flu, and more to do with kicking the American peeps while they’re already down.

Someone once told me how it’s far to easy to easy to pick out things you hate, and how not enough people are passionate about the things they love. I quite agree.

    unfollowfriday:

You insult other people’s photography constantly as if you’re the only person who understands how to take photos, and I just can’t stand it. Snobbery is not flattering. It makes you sound just as bad as Mary Rambin when you do it.

I’ll start out by saying that I’m not defending Mareen, simply offering my perspective.

I think perhaps these emotions are misplaced - and that it’s less about Mareen being a snob, and more about whomever wrote this being a little defensive and perceiving her blog differently than I do.

I, as an amature photographer look up to Mareen; she’s a professional photographer making something of herself. She takes photos for a living, and that works for her. I also think it gives her a little bit more credit in the photography area then say…me or my photo friends.

All in all, this just goes back to photographers in general. There is something very similar about all of us. We tend to get our toes stepped on too easily because there are too many of us in this niche. The SkillsUSA state level competition for secondary photography had 70+ participants and the other competitions had about 20 - 30 max.

What this boils down to is that we all think we have something special, we’re all our own best photographer. I don’t pretend not to fall victim to this mentality, I think it’s prevalent in a lot of hobbies, from web design to drawing, model making to graphic design. When the appreciation of the medium is so subjective to the person viewing it, it’s hard not to have conflict amongst people within the industry.

In the end, what I’m trying to say is that Mareen isn’t a snob, she’s just trying to share her experiences as a professional photographer with the rest of us. So you can either declare her a snob and learn nothing, or you can take something from it.

    Design for free!

It makes me laugh a little when I read articles by arrogant designers who’ve either nothing to show for themselves, or a poor sense of design (obviously, not subjectively); ranting about how they should never have to do work for free - never even make the smallest composition for free. Everything you do is worth something, so you’re selling yourself short by doing work for free. The whole “I don’t ask you to wash the hood of my car before I decide whether or not I’d like the whole wash” mentality.

It makes me laugh because while they’re sitting on their couches writing articles about not doing work for free, I’ll be showing my ability to learn and getting new jobs (sorry, I don’t like talking about myself just as much as you hate reading it, maybe more - but it’s important to say this to get my point across).

So in a sense, I agree with them, never work for free. More for me!

This only goes so far, basing all your work off doing the first bit for free won’t get you far. But at least build something under yourself before you get all better than me :p
