*sigh* last one.
Dustin is a high school student in Boise Idaho. He's passionate about designing websites and is into some more obscure bands. You can see his stats and browse what he browses. Lastly, please look at his photos!
These are photos from my Flickr Photostream, I hope you love 'em. They're here to stay.
There’s a million and one photos like this on the SkillsUSA Facebook album from our school. Apparently whomever uploaded them didn’t censor any of this crap at all - and now there are ugly people making retarded faces all over the pictures…
I’m doing an in-depth-analysis thing about how I placed in skills, because I care.
I managed to get all this data from the SkillsUSA website.
If you want you can check out what I came up with, I made it in numbers, and then exported a Excel version too.
So what I figured out is that I got completely boned in the “Programming Code” portion of the competition - something that was noticeable in my point breakdown right from the start. What do I take away from this though? I would have crushed everyone else had I not lost so many points in that section. I outdid them on every other category.
I’ll attribute that to my horrible 40px padding bug that caused some horizontal scrolling to occur. Aside from that I did miss a few requirements in the documentation, but none of which were programming related.
I actually uploaded my entry here, so you can take a look. I’m happy with how the mock page for the website turned out. But Not so happy with that horrid horizontal scrolling. I was going to have that header have a top: 0 with an fixed position, but it broke prophetically in IE7, so I quick made it absolute-position right in the last 5 minutes.
All in all, still very happy with how I did, and although I didn’t win, didn’t get a scholarship to an Art Institute (yay McDonalds version of college) - I do know why I lost, and I learned from it.
Still in Kansas City, finished my competition today, then ran around downtown for a while. I’m not even going to upload my entry to show you guys. It’s really…well….I’m beating myself up over some “minor” bugs and screw ups. I was quite pressed for time and whatnot, but I’m hoping things work out…*sigh*
Anyhow, check out this photo I got! I messed with it in iPhoto sooo much…
I just got done with the Skills USA state competition and I find out if I won in a couple of hours. This is the design I came up with. I’m….not incredibly happy with it, but I think we’ll have done better than the rest of the competition. Oh if only you all could have seen some of the horrendous things some kids came up with during that competition. Lets just say I saw kids using MS paint more copiously than their brains.
